Welcome to Cumbria Wildflowers Online Shop Our wildflower plug plants and wildflower seeds are for sale all year round. All plants for sale are Guaranteed UK/ British Wildflower species (not brought in from mainland Europe as some do). Our plants can be planted all year round (excluding frosty days or heatwaves) BUT we recommend plug planting from March to October to give them the best start. We provide a planting advice sheet with every order and recommend you give some thought to what species of plant you are buying, where you intend to plant them and how you are going to manage the land afterwards
Habitat Mixes Our habitat mix plug plant collections are put together to provide a range of plants which grow in a specific habitat. Each mix of plugs has a product description which indicates what type of soil, location and management is required for these plants. Some of the mixes are suitable to plant in any garden, wildflower patch or planted in a window box!. All our plants are UK native plants grown from wild seed in our sustainable nursery.
Meadow Plugs Our meadow plug plants are provided ready to plant in a hay meadow or in your garden in a wildflower patch. Our meadow plug plants are grown in compost suitable for the conditions they will be planted in. All our plants are UK native plants and are grown from wild seed.
Shade Area Plugs Our shaded area plug plants are provided ready to plant beside a hedgerow, in a woodland or in a shaded area of the garden. Our shaded area plug plants are grown in compost suitable for the conditions they will be planted in. All our plants are UK native plants and are grown from wild seed.
Wetland Plugs Our wetland plug plants are provided ready to plant in a wet meadow, by a river or by a pond in the garden. Our wetland plug plants are grown in compost suitable for the conditions they will be planted in. All our plants are UK native plants and are grown from wild seed.
Native Seed Our wildflower seed contains UK native wildflower seeds and grasses which have been harvested locally and sorted on site. Seeds can be sorted to individual species or as meadow mixes.
Native Bulbs
All our Native bulbs will be ready for sending out from September to end of October. PLEASE send an email to j.rook@cumbriawildflowers.co.uk if you have bulb orders over 1000 and we will provide bespoke quotations.
Please note our native bulbs are supplied seasonally. Native bulbs are supplied either 'In The Green' (plants with green leaves) or as bulbs. The In the Green season is from February to May depending on the bulb species. The Bulb season runs from September to November.
Also remember harvesting native bulbs in the wild is illegal and requires a special licence. Cumbria Wildflowers are licenced through DEFRA to supply all native bulbs.
We are here to help at any time of the year as any wildflower field, plot, garden or area in your garden needs to be carefully planned and considered before any work can commence.
Here at The Stables in Great Orton we have been undertaking a major project converting a former riding stables and adjoining fields to create a purpose built home for Cumbria Wildflowers. Everything we have done to date and plan to do in the future has carefully considered the environment, been architecturally planned and financially considered with the overall operation of the Company in mind.
Establishing our operations on the one site has not been an easy exercise or without its share of problems but we continue to progress in the endeavour of completing an effective, modern business for the 21st Century, embracing all that is essential and precious in our beautiful countryside.
We sign up to the Flora Locale Code of Conduct as sustainability is at the heart of what we do.
